James McIntosh Patrick OBE RSA 1907-1998
James McIntosh Patrick is generally recognised as Scotland's foremost landscape painter of the 20th century. Born in Dundee in 1907 he displayed a keen interest in art and was encouraged by his father Andrew Patrick, an architect who was himself an avid watercolourist.
From 1924 he studied painting under Maurice Greiffenhagen at the Glasgow School of Art, where he forged his interest in etching. Though well travelled - making several painting expeditions to France and Italy - he became celebrated for his paintings of the Angus landscape and Dundee, Scotland, where he was to spend most of his life.
