John Duncan RSA RSW 1866-1945
Dundee-born John Duncan showed a precocious talent, attending Dundee School of Art at the age of eleven and working as an illustrator at fourteen. He later continued his artistic studies at Antwerp, Duesseldorf and in Italy, where he became interested in the Italian quattrocento.
On his return to Edinburgh, his association with Patrick Geddes and the Celtic Revival Movement was Duncan's main focus. He was also influenced by the European symbolist movement.
